Treat, Rehabilitation and Prevent

TRP Physio devises a three stage physiotherapy approach: stage 1 – Treat, stage 2 – Rehabilitation and stage 3 – Prevent. It is important the three stages are applied to all the patients physiotherapy programs, as this ensure the highest quality treatment with the best possible outcome. At TRP Physio we understand that all patients have different goals and expectations. On your first session we will discuss and identify these goals and expectations with you and ensure they applied within the three stage process. This ensures that the physiotherapy treatment is unique to you as an individual and is tailored for your needs.

Treatment will be tailored and planned around  your patient goals. If in pain, our main objective is to reduce your pain as quick as possible with hands on treatment. Which consists of: Deep/soft tissue massage, electrotherapy, ultrasound, acupuncture and manual therapy. The treatment phase involves healing and repairing any soft tissue damage you may have. The encouragement of blood flow to the injured area is vital for repair and to reduce pain.

Once there is a 30% - 50% overall improvement and a decrease of pain, the rehabilitation stage is then implemented. This involves the restoration of function and movement of the injured area. Depending on your goals, the prescription of the rehabilitation programme will be tailored according to your lifestyle, work and/or sport. TRP Physio does not prescribe old fashioned Physiotherapy exercises, we prescribe exercises that are functional, tailored and important for you and your goals

At TRP physio we like our patients not to return back with same problem in the near future. It is important we teach you how to prevent the injury from re-occurring and ensure you know how to how to maintain that area once your physio is completed. As a team, we will investigate what contributing factors which may have lead for you to first injure that particular area. Prevention, may include: lifestyle changes, postural changes, gait analysis, orthotics or strengthening.

Physiotherapy Treatments

We will use a massage pressure with suits you to reach deeper layers of muscle and facia. It is used for chronic aches and pains in such areas as upper and lower back. Massage is also used to facilitate the removal of swelling and odema. Which in turn encourages healing and increases the blood flow to an injured area.

Acupuncture is when fine needles are inserted into specific points of the body. As physiotherapists we use a combination of Chinese and western approach, which both have been proven to provide pain relief. It can be used for back pain, sciatica, migraines, headaches, muscular pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. It can also be used to promote healing to injured soft tissue such as ligaments and tendons. All our physiotherapists are AACP registered.

Ultrasound increases local blood flow to the injured area and can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation. To break down scar tissue a higher power density will be used. Ultrasound treatment is commonly used for non – acute joint swelling and soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, muscle spasm and ligament injuries

Manual therapy is when the physiotherapist use's their hands to put pressure on soft tissue and mobilise or manipulate a joint. It is used in conjunction with exercise therapy and/or activity. Manual therapy includes: passive stretching, mobilsation, SNAGs and NAGs, muscle energy techniques, tractions etc.. Manual therapy can help in a variety of ways depending on the patients injury.

Commonly at TRP Physio we use interferential electrotherapy. This device transmits electrical impulses which stimulates nerves under your skin and begins the healing process. Interferential therapy reduces your pain safely, decreases swelling/inflammation, restores lost or restricted movement. It also stimulates the natural pain killers and hormone which help your body heal faster.

Pain relief is achieved through exercise therapy as well as the restoration of movement. At TRP Physio we will asses your physical capabilities, body type and activity level and then prescribe you the correct exercises for you.  For certain injuries and conditions we will develop and tailor an exercise prescription based on current research and  ensure the exercises are aimed to achieve your goals.
